Here is the picture we have of my mother, Jo Ann Alford, and her first Fox Trotter, J’s Cricket. My parents purchased Cricket in 1969 from Kenny Morrison of Humansville, Missouri. Wendell Cully of Stockton, Missouri, raised her. Cricket was 8 when my parents bought her. My mother showed her for probably 2 or 3 years and did well with her. Not winning, but usually placing in the Senior Mare class at all the area shows when there was no amateur division and there could easily be over a dozen mares in the class every Friday and Saturday night all summer. This picture is probably from Bolivar in about 1970. Cricket is our foundation mare. Most notably, she foaled Zane’s Fancy Girl in 1972 by Zane Grey, and Lad’s Special Promise in 1977 by Zane’s Charming Lad. Fancy and Promise went on to have great show careers and one or both are in the pedigrees of the vast majority of the horses we show now.
