2020 MFTHBA Show & Celebration

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE I t has once again been a great honor to serve the MFTHBA membership this past year as President of this great organization. 2020 has been filled with many challenges that most have not experienced before. Besides having to cancel our spring show and our trail rides, many members have been impacted by Covid-19, some more severely than others. Ours prayers continue to go out to those who have experienced illness or lost loved ones. We are still making some significant progress in promotion and interest in our great horse throughout the country. In February we held a Judges training seminar at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. We were successful in bringing in some new interest in the Fox Trotter from many individuals outside of our breed. We are also still working on legislation to designate the first week of September as Missouri Fox Trotter week in Missouri as well as some other promotions with the State as part of the Missouri Bicentennial in 2021. We unfortunately had to cancel the spring show due to the pandemic but we send a special thanks to the Mid-America Association for allowing us to get our 3 Year Old Futurity classes in during their show. The Show and Celebration entries were down but better than expected due to the circumstances. The Saturday night spectator attendance was up significantly which was a big positive creating lots of energy. We have developed a list of core classes that will be on the Show and Celebration show bill for the next 3 years. Please take a look at those and get some support behind them so we can continue to grow our program. We developed a new Affiliate program that is more user friendly to get groups involved. We also made our National Trail rides more user friendly for the participants. Some of the goals we have for 2021 are to continue to grow and preserve our registry, be financially responsible with focus on profitability. Each Director has been challenged to develop programs to promote the Fox Trotter throughout the country, develop a strong sponsorship program which is key to our financial success, develop a priority list of improvement projects with budgets and a multi-year plan for completion. Some of the short-term plans are to have a new roof put on the gazebo by spring, re-establish and develop our new judges training program to improve education and fairness. The versatility of our horse was again positively displayed this past year which was shown through the number of versatility entries as well as the ranch horse competitions. Our trail ride groups continue to grow throughout the country. I want to again ask every member to share with other horse enthusiasts that may not be familiar with the Fox Trotter the wonderful attributes of our horse and the benefits of being a MFTHBA member and registering your horse. We have a year long promotion in 2021 to register your foals with a DNA kit for a discounted rate. If you sell or buy a horse please make sure the transfer of ownership is completed and the new owner becomes a member. Please support our 2021 committees. If anyone has an interest in being involved with a committee just let the office or myself know. I’m very excited about the new 2021 Board of Directors and we are committed to being unified in making decisions in the best interest of the MFTHBA. I’m excited about 2021 and will see everyone at the 3 Year Old Futurity and the 63rd Annual Fall Show and Celebration in September. Sincerely, Mark Mackie MFTHBA President WELCOME TO THE MISSOURI FOXTROTTING HORSE BREED ASSOCIATION 1 1
