The Bay Area Fox Trotter Association (BAFTA) recently announced they will host their first MFTHBA National Trail Ride. “Being a new MFTHBA affiliate, the Bay Area Fox Trotter Association has really been working hard to provide some exciting, new events in our Region 1 area.  After hosting three years of successful horse shows and clinics as a new association, we decided to step it up and add a MFTHBA National Trail Ride to our calendar of annual events,” shared Marie Boyd, BAFTA President and MFTHBA Region 1 Director.

Finding a location in the Northern California Bay Area that accommodates overnight horse camping, is easy to access and offers affordable rates proved to be a difficult task – so many parks in the area have, over time, removed their overnight horse facilities.  Finally the perfect location was located. Delle Valle Regional Park in Livermore, California is located just 20 miles west of Interstate Highway 5, providing easy access for trail riders who might be participating from out of the area.

Delle Valle Regional Park offers beginner to intermediate type trails, through rolling hills on nice, well maintained, trail paths.  The park is based around a large lake and is a regular stop for Tulle Elk, deer, turkeys, several types of water fowl birds and is also well known for being a frequent stop for avid bird watchers.

“As the date gets closer, we will be posting more information and updates about the park, including photos and maps.  Our trail rides will be guided and maps will be available at the ride,” Boyd added.

MFTHBA National Trail Rides are multi-day trail rides open to anyone with a passion for trail riding regardless of the breed of horse they ride. However, MFTHBA members receive an added bonus for participating in rides hosted by the MFTHBA and its affiliates. As part of MFTHBA membership, members can earn awards based on the number of rides they participate in. Prizes start after just 10 rides. There is no required timeframe to complete the rides.
