St George Winter Ride sponsored by the Utah Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association Affiliate February 25-26, 2022. Information about the Trail Ride: It is still winter months so we have to be a little fluid with exactly which ride we will do depending on weather. Plans are to do Red Mountain, which is a Snow Canyon overlook ride on Friday weather permitting. Second ride will probably be in the Red Cliffs Reserve. We may split the group and do half on each trail each day, depending on turn out. These are both favorite trails of those who live in the area. Red Mountain can be a little rocky and will climb to over 6,000 foot. Red Cliff Reserve is very sandy and stays in the 3,000 foot elevation.
Information about the trails: Red Mountain trail climbs up thru a pinion juniper forest to Overlook that looks into the head of Snow Canyon. It cross sandy areas, large areas of flat slab rock and rides along the top of the mountain with views into Snow Canyon. You then proceed down a draw that brings you back to the parking area. About 13 miles in length.
Red Cliff Reserve is a very sandy trail that offers great footing even for barefoot horses. Not very much elevation change. It’s about a 10 mile loop.
Camping will depend on your choice. Most folks put the horse up at the Legacy Center and get a hotel nearby. February still has short days and can get cool at night.
Facility: Not one specific location. Several in general area. Suggested: Legacy Park, 5500 West 700 South Hurricane UT 84737. 12×12 overnight stalls are $15 per stall per night Phone 435-652-4000
