Humans and Horses: Tori Blankenship and Playboy’s Sampson
Tori Blankenship and Playboy’s Sampson, Reg. #00-64803
My most special Fox Trotter is Playboy’s Sampson. When Bud told me that he had bought Sampson in 2006, I was totally against his decision. The reputation of Sam was of a very powerful outlaw. Did he actually expect me to ride this horse? Best thing that has ever happened to me in the horse world was Sampson’s lessons. Sam was indeed my greatest teacher. He showed me the largest emotional pain imaginable and ultimately the biggest love possible in the human-equine bond.
Once almost dead, then healed back and brought back, displaying his displeasure with things strongly at times, silently a fighter and always on guard. He came to us roaring like a lion and left with the gentleness of a lamb. The Journey Sam, Bud and I shared brought a whole new awareness of so many things.
Sampson left the biggest hole in my heart when he left. He has taught so many people so much about the heart and soul of a horse. My husband gave me the greatest gift in the world when he put this magnificent horse in my hands, and let Sampson and I figure it all out together. This horse has taught me more than all of the horses, and probably people too, that have been a part of my life put together. His beauty inside challenges the beauty on the outside, Sampson will always be a part of me.
