Judge Certification Seminar Scheduled for March
Individuals interested in becoming a carded judge will have their chance to complete the first step in the process this March. The Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association (MFTHBA) Judges Committee will be hosting a certification seminar on March 6 and 7 in Marshfield, Missouri.
The two-day seminar will include instruction on scoring and judging performance, model, and versatility classes. In addition to providing an educational opportunity for potential judges, the Judges Committee is also stressing the value for seasoned and new exhibitors.
“This seminar will go into detail about what judges are looking for in each class and how the different components should be judges,” shared Judges Committee Co-chairman, Debbie Franklin.
The committee has been working to better define and improve instruction on scoring horses in the walk, fox trot, and canter. To assist with this process, the committee recently met with a large group of performance trainers to work on this process.
In addition, the committee is bringing together an experienced set of instructors to teach the seminar. Geno Middleton, MFTHBA Hall of Fame inductee and World Grand Champion trainer, will be the lead instructor for the performance section. Tom Owens, another MFTHBA Hall of Fame inductee, will teach the model portion. Karen Craighead, a successful judge and former equine instructor, will teach the versatility component.
Individuals interested in attending the training are encouraged to register early. Those interested in obtaining their judge’s cards may attend for $30 for the first day or $40 for both days. Auditors may attend one day for $25 or both days for $35.00.
