MFTHBA Announces Changes to Judge Selection Process for 2015 Spring Show and Three Year Old Futurity

MFT Full LogoBased on feedback from exhibitors at past shows, the MFTHBA Judges Training Committee recently proposed changes to the way judges are selected and utilized during the 2015 Spring Show and Three Year Old Futurity. The proposal was approved, with minor modifications, by the MFTHBA Board of Directors.

MFTHBA carded judges, as well as previously carded judges, received a letter asking about their availability to judge the performance and model classes at the upcoming event scheduled for June 10-13. Unlike past years when judges needed to be available to judge the entire event, this year judges can select which days they are available. Judges were asked to reply indicating their availability. The judge must certify that on the days they judge they can meet the conflict of interest requirements as outlined by the MFTHBA Rule Book. Previously carded judges that indicated they were willing to judge, will be granted a one year judges card per the procedure outlined in the MFTHBA Rule Book.

All judges that returned their form to the MFTHBA office indicating they would be available one or more days and are qualified to judge based on MFTHBA rules have been placed in the pool to judge. Based on their indicated availability by day, the MFTHBA office will randomly select 5 judges each day to judge the evening show. At some point during the day, the selected judges will then be notified and will be asked to report to the MFTHBA office for a review of the MFTHBA standard and other instructions. Some judges in the pool may judge more than one night while others may not be selected at all.

“The goal of this process is to help foster an equitable environment for all persons involved in our shows,” shared Chad Hindman, MFTHBA Region 7 Board Director. “The process will not be perfect; however, we as an organization must continue to explore new avenues to produce an impartial atmosphere for both the exhibitor and judge.”

This process applies only to judges for the performance and model competition. The process for selecting of the versatility judge will not change.

This process is a test process and may or may not be used at future shows. The Judges Training Committee will review the success of the process following the show and provide recommendations for the 2015 World Show and Celebration.
