Nominations for the 2024 prestigious Matthew Keeter Sportsmanship Award.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines sportsmanship as “conduct (as fairness, respect for one’s opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing) becoming to one participating in a sport.” Do you know a member of the MFTHBA who demonstrates true sportsmanship? 

The MFTHBA would like to honor and recognize a true sportsman in our breed by honoring them with the Matthew Keeter Sportsmanship Award.

I nominate Cheyenne Dunham. Cheyenne has taken on the administrator role for Versatility and Ranch Horse classes. The classes are well run. We also had a food truck arranged for the Versatility arena! The judge and announcer do a good job. Being the administrator meant Cheyenne had to give up showing her own horse at the shows. Cheyenne has also taken on restoring the obstacle course. She has also planned an obstacle and sorting show. She is bringing back the fun of doing it all with a fox trotter in Ava!

I would like to nominate Calvin Chambers.
Calvin, a MET breeder, also participates in the trail program and created a sponsorship program to encourage members to become active by counting their miles.
As a mentor, Calvin takes teens to trail rides and shows, inspiring them to become MFTHBA members.

We would like to nominate Rylee Nichols for the Matthew Keeter Sportsmanship Award. Rylee is always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need at the shows. Be it from helping with leading a child in the lead line class because they had no helper/handler or to holding a horse so that a person can get on. She always has a smile on her face wither she wins or loses and will be the first to congratulate others for a job well done and for having a great ride. Rylee has spent time helping with the younger youth riders at the Youth seminar’s with understanding what was said and just cheering them on in the ring. Thank you for taking the time to consider Rylee for this award.
